Originally, when we settled on art trading, we were thinking of exchanging home decor and ornaments, rather than artist works.
It wasn’t until later that we realized that a lot of artists had extra work laying around, and this service can be executed right here on the ECUAD campus, where students are often burdened by test prints and inconvenient large-scaled artworks.
We created an online survey that we distributed around the ECUAD community. The survey helped us gain an understanding of the types of art people own. By doing this research process, we realized that there are many people who are troubled by having nowhere to put their large artworks.
While completing the journey map, our team discovered many other struggies and difficulties that we didn’t initially think of. From physical limitations to technolgical barriers, the journey map indicates all the potential thoughts and processes of the Art Swap event.
I extracted five colors from the school logo and made a logo corresponding to the five initial letters “ECUAD”. Then mess up the order of these five letters to create two different portrait logos for merch production.
Participants in the exchange exhibition can get the corresponding number of “take away” artworks according to the number of artworks they provided. For example, a participant who provides 3 pieces of artwork can take away 3 pieces of other people’s artworks, and so on.
During the times when exhibitions are not held, artworks can be shared and taken away by uploading idle artworks to the mobile app. The rules are the same with the off-line exchange exhibition.
While I was designing the application, I did a research for some gallery apps such as MoMA and Metropolis. I feel like they all have simple designed interface that could make the art pieces stand out very clearly. In my app mockup, I gave the picture the most space on the interface.
Finally, I designed a bunch of merch for this event to facilitate better publicity among classmates, also for participants to keep as a souvenir. Due to the pandemic, our event was ultimately unable to take place. Below are some of the renderings.
